The changing composition of the dental workforce has generated interest in describing differences in practice by dentist’s gender that might affect the availability of oral health services over time. This presentation examines gender differences in demographic characteristics, geography of practice, and employment choices among clinically active dentists in the US using the 5-year Public Use Microdata Sample (2014-18) from the US Census Bureau’s American Community Survey. Demographic diversity, workforce participation, ownership of dental practices, and personal income differed significantly by gender.
